Papers of Russian press here represented are depicted the life and activity of the inventor of the artificial arm G.T. Rudenko.
Briefly, the articles tell that young Rudenko worked on Altai selection station. When the II World War began, he has left on front and with fights has reached up Germany as the commander of a tank platoon. During the War he was some times wounded. At the end of the War in fights near Konigsberg in his tank the enemy shell has hitted, therefore he has lost both upper extremities above and below elbow. He had no vocational education, however after the War he has decided to construct an original prostheses of arms. In 1964 he has taken out first Patent on invention of mechanical artificial arm taking possibility to write, operate by a knife and fork, to play tennis and chess, to perform delicate operations and even to transfer heavy, up to 40 kg burgen. Money to patenting of the invention abroad the USSR was not, and in 1979 patent application on this mechanical artificial arm was registered in Japan… The inventor on own experience was certain, that the artificial arm operates well. It is clear, that Rudenko has wanted to help all people, which have appeared in the same trouble. However attempts of the altruist to apply the sharply necessary prostheses in industry has always met with strong bureaucracy, apathy and indifference. It is a reason that till 1998 majority of prostheses for the amputees Rudenko makes in his one-room flat with help of his wife and children frequently on the II World War veteran pension...
